Briscoe redeems himself with first race win

Ryan Briscoe narrowly slipped through a late race crash to go on and win Sunday’s event at The Milwaukee Mile. Briscoe’s win at Milwaukee is his first in the IndyCar Series and the 300th for Penske Racing.
With only three laps remaining, the exit of turn 2 became the scene of a four car pile up involving Andretti, Carpenter, Mutoh and Meira. Briscoe’s quick reactions allowed him to brake suddenly and avoid the wreckage, winning the race under caution. No drivers were injured in the incident.
Briscoe’s win comes just one week after an embarrassing pitlane collision with Danica Patrick at the Indy 500 which retired the female Andretti Green Racing driver from the race.
Ryan Briscoe, #6 Team Penske, said:
“The car was just magic today. We came through the field, and it felt so good. Some guys had a bit of a compromise. Some cars were good at the beginning of a stint. Mine was good throughout. My Firestone tyres just got better and better as the race went on.”
Joe Barbieri, Manager, Firestone Racing, said:
“With picture-perfect weather this afternoon, 26 IndyCar Series cars around this one-mile oval was certainly a sight to see! If drivers, like Ryan Briscoe, had their car dialed in, they were able to make it look easy. For those who did not have their cars set up quite so well, it was definitely a difficult day. Firestone brought a new tyre spec to this track. As it was designed to provide drivers with more grip, it was a little bit softer than last year’s Milwaukee spec. While this contributed to additional marbles on the track, we feel that it was a step in the right direction. And remember that more cars on the track means more marbles, and the increased car count is definitely a good thing for the IndyCar Series and for Firestone Racing.”
