IRL News - Kanaan Still Pushing Hard For Title
06/08/2007
After his victory in Michigan this Tony Kanaan has made it clear that he is still pushing to win the IndyCar Series title for himself rather than helping teammate and good friend Dario Franchitti.

After this weekend’s win, the Brazilian is now third in the standings with four races remaining, and has improved his position to just 81 points behind Franchitti, who has come under pressure from Scott Dixon in recent weeks.

Until Michigan Dixon had won three consecutive races, closing a 64 point gap to 24.

"Right now, we've got to focus on getting our car back to victory lane," said Kanaan, who won the title in 2004.

"We're capable of winning any of the final races so if we can do that, we'll get ourselves closer to Dario and Scott in the championship."

Andretti Green Racing are clearly happy to focus on both of their front-runners in the title race, as Marco Andretti has pledged to help Franchitti and Kanaan in the final races.

"We've still got several chances to win a race this season and Michigan this weekend is a place where we can certainly do that," said the American.

"But we're going to do what we can to be competitive, and still help Dario and Tony in the championship."
