IRL News - Franchitti Under Real Pressure Says Dixon
31/08/2007
With just two races to go in the IndyCar Series, new championship leader Scott Dixon feels that the pressure is on Dario Franchitti and his Andretti Green Racing team now that he has erased the Scotsman’s lead.

Dixon, the 2003 champion, was frustrated at the AGR team tactics, with Tony Kanaan playing as Franchitti’s wingman, and helping him score points despite a damaged wing and front suspension after a collision with teammate Marco Andretti. But the Kiwi still found a positive from his win in Northern California.

"I think it's six races in a row we've earned more points than them," said Dixon. "That is obviously going to cause a bit of questioning within the team there, and obviously a lot of stress. We've just got to play on that."

Kanaan said that he did not feel that he had done anything wrong, and despite still being mathematically in contention for the title, he does not feel that he has a chance to add to his 2004 crown this year.

"I get paid to drive for Michael Andretti and AGR and I did what I felt I had to do," he said. "If anybody has a problem, they can come talk to me."

Dixon, who was 65 points adrift in the standings earlier in the season, now leads Franchitti by four points with two races to go.
