F1 News - Spyker Still Looking
27/11/2006
The Spyker F1 Team are on a recruitment drive ahead of their first full season of Formula 1. The team, which was founded this September when Spyker bought MF1 Racing, has already recruited Mike Gascoyne as their chief technical officer, and further additions will be announced shortly.
"We are definitely looking for some people," said team principal Colin Kolles. "But we have a very selective way of doing it. I prefer to have better quality than quantity, and we have to concentrate on working as efficiently as possible."
The team is focused on bolstering its aerodynamics department, in keeping with Gascoyne's belief that aero is crucial in determining a car's ultimate performance. The team are already upgrading and increasing the scale of their wind tunnel to fifty per cent, they rent a second tunnel and are looking at buying time in a third one.
"Our main emphasis is definitely on aerodynamic development," said Kolles, which explains why Spyker are the only F1 team missing the three three-day tests prior to Christmas. "We prefer to put all of our resources into aerodynamic development, and we are quite familiar with the Bridgestone tyre family. We would prefer to have an upgrade during the season than an interim car now."
Christijan Albers (above) remains the team's only confirmed driver for 2007, but the identity of his team-mate is expected to be confirmed shortly.
